Hand knit ribbed mens scarf
By Airin Gomura
Today I realised I have not developed much as a knitter. A scarf is the most advanced item I have ever completed. Of scarves, I’ve made fluffy ones, fringed ones and one with pompoms, but it’s no wonder my knitting skills are pretty limited because I am yet to take on a more difficult and time consuming project. That said, I’m pretty slow with my knitting needles, so even this ribbed scarf I knitted for Dave took me about two months! If I remember correctly, it also included a knotted ball of yarn which resembled the beginnings of a scarf being thrown across the room before this final version came into shape.
This was my very first crafty project I had ever made for my partner. I don’t think he likes it very much (he hardly ever wears it because he says the yarn makes him itchy) but he does try to convince me otherwise. It’s not easy, making something for your boyfriend/partner/husband.
I’d like to take on a bigger knitting project one day. I find it daunting, and have no idea what I will make yet. Is there a natural progression with knitting? Everyone starts off with a scarf, but what next?
