I do love our new sofa bed, but it came with the most ugly black and brown cushions. I’m so glad I’ve finally made new cushion covers and got the chance to showcase a gorgeous ceramic button as well!

新しいソファーにはダサい黒と茶色のクッションがついてきました。やっとクッションカバーを作ってこの可愛いボタンを使えたので嬉しいです。

This button is an English Flower Garden button from the Etsy store, Fulton & Co. The blue floral fabric, I picked up at the discount fabric store in the Mission district for less than $5.

ボタンはEtsyのFulton & Co.とゆう店の物です。ブルーの花柄の生地は$5以下でした。

How to make

Step 1

Stitch the edges of your cushion cover. Press the opening with an iron before you turn it inside out to create a neat finish (A,B). Insert your cushion (C) and hand stitch closed using a saddle stitch.

クッションカバーはアイロンをかけてから表に返すときれいです(A,B)。クッションを入れて(C)手縫いでしめます。

Step 2

Mark the centre of both the front and back of cushion with a fabric pen (see pink dot in photos). Use strong thread to go through the cushion from front to back. Put the needle through the fabric to add strength to the stitch (A). Go back through the cushion to the front and pull HARD (B). Pick up a bit of fabric again, pull, and then attach your button (C).

クッションの両側、中心にマーカーで印をつけておきます（写真のピンクの丸）。前から後ろへ太い糸を通します。針を少し生地に入れると強くなります(A)。こんどは後ろから前へ糸を通し、しっかり引っ張ります(B)。また針を少し生地に通し、糸を結んでからボタンを付けます(C)。

Step 3

Finished!

Being half Japanese, I do like sitting on the floor a lot. This floor cushion made with a granny squares crochet insert makes it all the more comfortable.

やはり日本人ハーフ、床に座るのが好きです。このかぎ網モチーフ付きの座布団でゆったりしてます。

I picked up this granny square at Thrifttown for just $1.50!

このモチーフは古着屋でなんと$1.50でした。安すぎる！

Instructions – 作り方

Step 1

Measure your cushion and granny square. I bought a 65 cm x 65 cm cushion insert. Add 1 cm (2/5 “) seam allowance and cut 4 pieces of fabric to enclose the granny square. Ensure pieces are wide enough to overlap the granny square by at least 2.5cm (1”). Also cut 2 pieces of fabric to cover the back of the cushion. They should also have a 1 cm (2/5 “) seam allowance and overlap in the centre by 15 cm (6 “)

モチーフとクッションを計る （私は65 cm x 65 cmのクッション使用）。１cmの縫い代を付けてモチーフの周りの生地４枚をモチーフを2.5cmほどカバーできる幅に切る。クッションの裏をカバーするように、１cmの縫い代を付け真ん中が１５cm重なる幅の生地を２枚切る。

Step 2

Right sides facing, stitch the edges of the front 4 pieces together. For the back, fold down the seam of the inner edges of the 2 back pieces and stitch.

前４枚の生地を縫う。裏の２枚は１cm中央のはしを折ってから縫う。

Step 3

Place the front piece over the granny square and pin into place. Stitch the granny square on to the fabric from the right side (see below, red).

カバーの前をモチーフにかぶせてピンでとめる。カバーの表から縫う（下の赤い線）。

Step 4

Right sides facing, stitch the front and back covers together. Insert the cushion and it’s finished.

カバーの表と裏を合わせて縫う。裏返してクッションを入れれば完成。
