It’s hard to resist a free sewing pattern, especially if it’s a simple and chic one from a Japanese sewing pattern designer! Here are 7 free patterns for women you can try out today:
1. Midi Wrap Skirt
A wrap skirt is universally flattering, and makes an ideal beginner project. This free sewing pattern (like most free patterns) only comes in one size, but it’s simple enough to adjust to your own. The pattern is basically a rectangle, so you can change the width (waist length) and height (skirt length) to fit your size.

2. Gathered Maxi Skirt
From the same source as the wrap skirt, is this gathered maxi skirt. This is a very easy sewing project, but by choosing the right fabric and colour, it looks like something bought from a store! I think this mustard cotton / linen blend is a great choice.
3. Jogger Pants
Weekends and work-from-home days are made for comfy pants like this free jogger pants sewing pattern. Use a soft terry or jersey fabric in a smart, dark shade for a cozy, but sports luxe look.

4. Basic Tee
Its surprisingly difficult to find the perfect tee. Have you considered sewing your own? I like my tees to be quite boxy, sitting just on my belly button. You can make little adjustments like this quite easily to a basic sewing pattern like this free one! I like to sew jersey tees using only an overlocker / serger. Take a look at my favourite tee made from heart print organic cotton.

5. A-line Shift Dress
I think every sewist needs to make a simple shift dress for their handmade wardrobe. It’s a versatile piece you can dress up or down. My favourite way to wear these dresses is to layer a thin turtleneck sweater underneath.
This beautiful free sewing pattern comes in several sizes. It’s quite similar to my reversible boxy dress sewing pattern. If you’d like to try drafting your own sewing pattern, try my free little boxy dress sewing tutorial!

6. Drape Front Coat
How chic is this wool coat? It has a draped front, long sleeves and side pockets. You could add a tie waist belt if you prefer a less boxy silhouette.
7. Canvas Tote Bag
I wanted to find a great bag sewing pattern to add to this list, because wouldn’t it be amazing to have a completely handmade outfit. This simple tote can fit so much. If you’ve got young kids like me, you’ll be able to carry all the snacks, clothes and toys you need!
I’d choose a canvas, twill or denim for this project. You could even upcycle an old pair of jeans.
