10 Pants Patterns For Your Handmade Wardrobe

Did you follow sewing bloggers during Me-Made-May? I was on Instagram last month, posting awkward selfies of myself wearing a handmade clothing item everyday. Just look for the hashtag #memademay on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook and you’ll see all the wonderful handmade outfits everyone wore during May.

I’d never taken part in Me-Made-May before, so it was the first time I had to do an audit of the handmade items in my closet. What I noticed then is that I have a surplus of dresses. I blame all the beautiful Japanese sewing patterns like Stylish Dress Book; I’d made many dresses but not much of anything else. Especially not pants and trousers.

Another Baby Kimono Sewing Pattern – Onesie Version!

Hi everyone. We are well into Autumn here in Australia. It cools down a lot in the evenings, so I’ve been putting Umi in a warm sleeping sack when she goes to bed. Underneath the sleeping sack, she wears this kimono onesie. I like it a lot because it’s light enough to layer, but will keep her tummy covered if we take the sleeping sack off. Remember the kimono top sewing pattern I shared recently? This one is the onesie version!

5 Ways to Make More Time for Sewing

We all wish we had more time to do the things we love, like sewing, right?  Since becoming a mother, I seem to have less and less time for myself. But a sewing blog can’t go on if I don’t get any sewing done, so lately, I’ve been trying different ways to fit sewing into my busy day.

To put things into context, my “job” currently consists of being a marketing consultant, a blogger, as well as mama to a 7 months old baby. I have a nanny one day per week to look after Umi, so I can focus on my consulting work for clients. The following little tricks are things I do to make time for sewing on weekdays when I don’t have a nanny.

Free Sewing Pattern: Soft and Cosy Baby Kimono

A baby kimono is an essential item in Umi’s wardrobe. We’ve used one as her pyjamas ever since she was born. I love fact that you can just wrap it around her, without the need to pull it over her head. This is a big plus especially when you are dealing with a newborn, because they can’t support their heads yet.

Before I had Umi, I picked up some newborn kimonos in Japan. They are called “hadagi”, which means “skin-wear”.  Hadagi is always made of soft fabric because it’s worn directly on the baby’s skin.  Umi is far too big for the Japanese hadagi now, so I decided to make my own version in bigger sizes.
